Wrapping up 2020

written by Francisco Mendez

The year 2020 is almost over. What a year it has been, right? While some might argue that particularly this year felt like a never-ending story and that an end was long overdue, it was undeniably a year to remember. Admittedly, not always on a positive note. Supposedly, we can all agree that it was challenging – to say the least. It challenged every single one of us on so many levels, just as it challenged the world as a whole. In times like these, keeping a positive attitude takes a lot of strength and courage.

Nonetheless, as the year 2020 is approaching its end, we would like to take a moment to think about those challenges, the opportunities emanating from them and how it changed us. We would like to wrap up this year together with you. Are you ready?

As you all might know, the outbreak of COVID-19 and the resulting lockdown in March shook us to the core. Basically, from one day to another, we had to cancel all events until further notice. How long will that be? Good question. What is the best way to deal with this? Even better question. To be honest, that was heavy. It was a situation no one had seen before. Looking back at this, it definitely makes us appreciate everything that came after even more. That we, and especially thanks to our dear founder, Robin, were able to turn this crisis into an opportunity. How? Well, for instance, we launched our very first online vintage kilo sale! Definitely a milestone in the history of Vinokilo. But of course, things didn’t stop there.

As time passed by fearlessly and the situation barely – optimistically speaking – improved, the tension was rising. It simply wasn’t enough. But someone helped us out – YOU! Through our very first crowdfunding, you helped us to continue believing and not giving up. So, at this point, we would like to say: THANK YOU! You really can’t imagine how amazed we were to experience this. Thank you for supporting us. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for believing in us. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to make it to this point.

This made us think. The pandemic and everything it came with changed the world. Undoubtedly, it changed Vinokilo, too. As things slowly started to get better and we were once again able to bring you some long-awaited vintage love with our pop-up stores, we realised that we didn’t just want to go back to “normal business”. The pandemic has brought front and centre the real impact we are all having on the climate and our plane and, more importantly, the fact that it is possible to still reverse it. This is why, we wanted to learn from our experiences and make progress. Think local, act global. That is why in November after some hard-working months, we could proudly present to you: #THENEWNEW. We were ready for the next step in Vinokilo’s development and we wanted you on that journey with us.

As unbelievable as this might have sound at the beginning of the pandemic, now, while approaching the end of 2020, we can’t shake the feeling that despite it being incredibly tough for everyone, it was a time of change. An opportunity in disguise. And actually, we think that this is one of the best lessons that we can learn in order to grow. But then again, it wouldn’t have been possible without you. Let’s continue this journey together.

Happy New Year. Happy New New.
